Full-time staff position, 10 month role, 35.0 hours/week
TRIO program, grant funded position

Responsibilities: The Student Retention Specialist (SRS) provides support services for students to promote retention and academic success.  The Student Retention Specialist will engage students in a variety of student services activities to ensure progress towards graduation leading to career or transfer goals. The SRS works under the direction of the Program Director of the Student Support Services TRIO Program. 

The SRS is responsible for academic success and retention initiatives to support the students’ overall success.  The position would assist students in the attainment of academic achievement commensurate with their capabilities.

Typical duties include but are not limited to:

  • Acts as a liaison to at-risk students;
  • Acts as a liaison for support services and student affairs areas, such as tutoring, library services, distance learning support, and counseling;
  • Responds to faculty/staff and supports student in establishing goals to promote success and provide advising and academic support to students;
  • Maintains records of student academic progress;
  • Provides individual academic advising services to new, continuing, re-admit and transfer students;
  • Provides resources and opportunities for students to explore career and degree options;
  • Utilizes software within the context of academic advising and support;
  • Identifies gaps in services based on bast practices in retention and creates programming to improve student success;
  • Creates programs to support at-risk populations and identify specific cohorts groups with targeted intervention;
  • Creates, disseminates, and collects student surveys aimed at providing feedback on program and student needs;
  • Works with the Dept. of Institutional Research in compiling data to assist in proposals in grant writing;

Qualifications: The SRS is required to have demonstrated advanced knowledge and abilities in the following areas:

  • Student development/engagement
  • Academic advising
  • Early monitoring intervention
  • Experience with high-risk students from diverse backgrounds
  • Effective communication and problem solving strategies
  • Utilization of technology

Education Level: Bachelor’s degree required (Master's degree is highly preferred) in an appropriately related field together with one to four years of related experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position’s essential functions.

Salary: CCP 16, Step 1 : $44,811  (10 month role)
